The Gateway to Better Cooking, a 1950s cookbook, is a collection of recipes submitted by the congregation of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The church’s Talent Club selected the recipes, and they are representative of the food of the time. Baking, casseroles, jellies, and pickles are just some of the chapters featured. A true delight is the many advertisements from local businesses that generously contribute to the publication. They are a testament to the cultural and historical importance of Gananoque as the “Gateway to the Thousand Islands.”
