Condition: Acceptable - Well-loved.  The text has no notes or highlighting. Pages intact. Approximately twenty pages at the front and back have staining and chipping. The title page is worn. Fore-edge has staining. The back page has a neatly written recipe for poppy seed cake. The book has been rebound in brown leatherette on sturdy boards.   The text is highly legible and is a fascinating wartime read.

In 1931, Irma Rombauer self-published her personal collection of recipes and cooking techniques. Irma sensed that she was not alone in her need for a no-nonsense, practical resource in the kitchen. The result became the most authoritative cookbook in America.   By providing an interesting and easy-to-read cookbook, The Joy of Cooking became the main reference book for many mid-century cooks and remains a source of inspiration today.
