Canadian Cook Book by Nellie Lyle Pattinson 1947

 Condition: Good - Text is clear and unmarred.  The binding is tight.  The head, tail, corners, hinge and spine have wear.  Limited stains on navy blue cloth boards with faded gilt lettering. Has the previous owner's name neatly inscribed.  Markings on the last page. 

The Canadian Cook Book “was Canada's first mass-produced cookbook [that] emphasized nutrition, reflected the pre-World War I development of household science economics courses which combined arranging menus, home administration, budgeting, finance and efficiency with cooking and serving, and the postwar liberation of women through related workplace positions.”  Lorne Bruce -head of archival and special collections at the University of Guelph.   

Nellie Lyle Pattinson wrote the  Canadian Cook Book to meet the need for a recipe book for girls learning domestic science in the new technical schools and quickly became the textbook in schools nationwide.
